Now 22, St. John’s fiddler Charlotte-Anne Malischewski started performing traditional music when she was seven years old. Having grown in Newfoundland and lived in both Québec, England, and Northern Ireland, she uses techniques learned from both the fiddling traditions of those regions to play tunes from Newfoundland and beyond. Charlotte-Anne has performed and taught at home and abroad, but remains particularly interested in the francophone tunes and songs of Newfoundland, especially those of the late great fiddler Émile Benoit. Charlotte-Anne released a FACTOR-funded EP with Duncan Cameron in 2013.
“[A]lready a veteran performer and one of the outstanding up-and-coming young players [...] she demonstrates a sensitivity and elegance coupled with a consuming passion and understanding for the music.” - Francesca Swann, Music Producer and Former Host of CBC’s Musicraft
